The Covid-19 Dictionary (EN-ES) was first published as the Covid-19 Glossary (EN-ES) in electronic format at the beginning of May 2020 thanks to the support of Tremédica, who offered their website to host it, and Cosnautas, who took care of the technical details to get it online. The objective in creating the dictionary was to collect and organize the basic terminology related to covid-19 in English and propose carefully considered equivalent terms in Spanish as a practical resource for translators, interpreters, editors, journalists, and scientific publishers who need to translate and disseminate quality information on the subject.

In the first version (v. 1.01) it listed more than 3,200 terms related to medical, molecular, virological, pharmacological, economic, and social aspects of Covid-19, its causal agent SARS-CoV-2 and coronaviruses in general. A good number of these terms were related to different types of masks. The dictionary also included some neologisms and phrases that were popular on social media during that period of the pandemic.

In the present version (v. 2.03, February 2022), now officially titled Covid-19 Dictionary (EN-ES), contains a total of 6,593 mottos of which the majority refer to virological concepts, scales, vaccines, diagnostic tests, and healthcare products related to Covid-19 to enhance the previous corpus or as the result of queries that were sent in. It is a dictionary of phrases, with notes on usage and conceptual information. A selection of the corpus was published in 2020 as a supplement in the magazine Panace@, a PDF copy of which may be downloaded for free on the Tremédica website here: < www.tremedica.org/wp-content/uploads/panacea20-51_sup_glosario_covid-19.pdf >.

By May 2021, the glossary had been visited more than 47,500 times on the Tremédica website. Since June 2021 it is also available on the Cosnautas website, now with the new title but maintained as a free resource. We are extremely pleased to have this resource in the Cosnautas catalogue, and we are sure that it will continue to be useful for the reader.

Maria Verónica Saladrígas holds a PhD in life sciences with a specialization in molecular biology (University of Buenos Aires, 1993) and has 27 years of experience in technical and medical translation and revision (English and French to Spanish) for international organizations and pharmaceutical laboratories. For 23 years, she has worked in the department of drug registry at Novartis Pharma AG in Switzerland, where at the moment she leads the EN-ES translation team for Hispanic America. She is a member of MedTrad and cofounding partner of Tremédica and author of the English-Spanish Dictionary of Clinical Research on the Cosnautas platform. She is cofounder of the magazine Panace@ and currently a member of its editorial board.

Fernando A. Navarro holds a medical degree (University of Salamanca, 1986) and is a specialist in clinical pharmacology (Hospital Marqués de Valdecilla, 1991) with 33 years of experience as a freelance medical translator for pharmaceutical laboratories, international organizations, and companies in the biomedical sector. He is an honoured member of Tremédica, Asetrad, IAPTI and UniCo. He is the author of the Dictionary of Doubts and Difficulties in English-Spanish Medical Translation, Repertoire of medical abbreviations in Spanish, and the Great German-Spanish Medical Dictionary, all available on the Cosnautas platform. He is cofounder and the first director of the magazine Panace@.

Paz Gómez Polledo holds a degree in surgical medicine (Complutense University of Madrid,1983), a diploma in occupational medicine (National School of Occupational Medicine, 1987), and a PhD in medicine (UCM, 1989). She has practised as a surgeon in hospital centres in Madrid and worked as a general physician in primary care centres, a temporary forensic physician at the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Alicante, and an in-house physician for the Alicante city council. She has been a freelance English-to-Spanish medical translator for 35 years, a medical writer and reviser for texts and pharmaceuticals in Spanish as well as an educator and blogger on medical translation. She is a cofounding member of Tremédica, Asetrad, Medtrad, and UniCo, and member of medical writers associations in Europe (EMWA) and Spain (AERTeM). She is on the editorial board of the magazine Panace@.

Laura Munoa holds a degree in medicine (University of Salamanca, 1982) and has been a freelance translator for publishers, pharmaceutical laboratories, international organizations, and companies in the biomedical sector since 1989. She is a member of MedTrad and cofounding partner of Asetrad and Tremédica. She was Assistant Director of the magazine Panace@ and is on its editorial board.
